Research says that getting outside for a walk in nature heals. Sounds nice doesn’t it? Well I can attest to the healing effects of a good, fully present walk. I recommend it, even in the rain! My walk today inspired this poem:
Leonid Afremov’s “Loneliness of Autumn”
“Walking in the cold, damp Fall as the sun sets,
My dog along side,
Noticing bird song, glistening wet fallen leaves, wet pavement reflecting light, the peacefulness…
Suddenly I am conquered by gratitude,
And tears of joy fall unbidden.
Cracked open like this, serenity pours in.
I am thankful.”
Winter here can be dark and gloomy, occasionally, if you are lucky, it can also be punctuated by surprising light and rainbows:
“Day light,
Barely filtered through dark grey clouds.
Rain,
Coming down in varied tempos of wet.
Sun light,
Finally triumphs for a moment of warmth and surprise,
Gone a moment later, fleeting beauty, like us.”

I took this photo of the inspiration for today’s poem as it.

My photo of the sunset on this glorious, healing day at the beach.
Lovely day at the ocean, I found a poem bubbling up that expressed the highlight of the day:
“Forgiveness found me. Turned it over to the sea. She accepted with open arms. And unburdened me.”

Christian Schole’s “The Favorite Flower.”
For the intrepid hearts out there on Valentine’s, here is my humble poem about healing hearts:
“Encased within safe asylum,
Beating unrhythmically,
My heart
Strapped down with lashes of lies,
It flutters and skips irregular patterns,
SO S
S OS
S O S
Its declaration finally dawns,
Attending closer, I see bindings,
Terror,
Truth.
Illumination.
Delusive adhesions and ideas stretched.
Those pinions transmuted into tenderness: for me.
Gratefully, I finally fathom whom my heart is meant for.
Relief, as my inner compass, my voice,
Clarifies, harmonizes and is here to stay.”
Some say your pain has a message and instead of ignoring or medicating it, try to listen to it. OK, I tried. This is the message I got from my migraine pain today. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised!
“Constriction, conformation, I know you well. Your edges impair, cut, hold me still, Like driving with the emergency break on, Pumping the breaks down a hill.
“Freedom/Break the Mould” by artist Zenos Frudakis.
The pain has a message. I desire something else. A secret to my molded self. It whispers: “Release the breaks.” ‘Let loose your heart, It will hurt more at first, But follow it to the freedom To express your true self.'”
